About AHRN
The Asian Harm Reduction Network (AHRN) is a regional information and support network involved in supporting the organizations and individuals working towards the prevention of HIV transmission and the reduction of other harms associated with drug use in Asia through networking, information sharing, advocacy, training and capacity building, program and policy development, and, more recently, research.
AHRN has accreditation as a certified NGO by Société Générale de Surveillance (SGS) in June 2005 for its demonstrated compliance with key organisation and operational parameters. SGS is the world's leading agency for global benchmarking to certify organisational quality and integrity via the inspection, verification and testing of standard operating procedures.
BACKGROUND
AHRN has recently announced several organizational changes (see http://www.ahrn.net/Announcement.png). As mentioned, Asian Harm Reduction Network – the network remains a relatively small supporting organization for Asia nongovernmental and community-based organizations, and government and academic partners that are active in the field of harm reduction in the region. It has three core activities: national and regional advocacy on behalf of its members, networking and information-sharing. AHRN strategy and direction will be decided by an annual general assembly (GA) of its members. An Interim Network Coordinator (who reports directly to the Foundation Board) is currently being identified and recruited. The Interim Network Coordinator will be able to apply for the ‘permanent' Network Coordinator position.
The position is based at the AHRN Secretariat in Chiang Mai.
MAIN TASK:
The Interim Network Coordinator's main task is to finalize and implement a Transition Plan for the network, and administer the network. In principle, s/he is in charge of all matters related to the daily management of the network, including operations, communications, co-ordination, human resources, and finances.
In the initial stage, s/he will:
- Draft definition and eligibility criteria of ‘membership', develop the structure, organization, and communication strategies of the network, and present these to the first General Assembly –and ultimately to the Foundation– for approval;
- Organize the first General Assembly of (prospective) members; and
- Actively contribute to fundraising for the network.
In addition, s/he will supervise the Clearinghouse staff.
After approximately 6 months, the (‘permanent') Network Coordinator will be recruited (pending funding). Her/his tasks will be to manage the network's activities, including:
- Networking
- Information dissemination
- Advocacy
- Secure funding for the network
REQUIREMENTS:
- Appropriate educational background
- Management experience, preferably in health NGO(s) and or network(s) in Asia
- Fundraising skills and experience
- Excellent networking skills and proven affinity with organizations that work people who use drugs, PLHA and other MARPs
- Extensive advocacy experience
- Preferably Asian
- Preferably a recovering drug user
- English proficiency both oral and written. Preferably proficient in one or more languages in the region
- Computer literate
- Able to travel in the region
Compensation and Benefits (for the interim position)
